About Us

Our Story

Cottonwood Baptist Church was started on September 22, 2019. We are an independent Baptist Church. We hold to the King James Bible as our guide in direction and doctrine. We believe it is vitally important for believers to actively pursue a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which will in turn produce a desire to reach the lost sinner with the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in our local area and around the world. We also believe a personal relationship with Christ will build the believer’s desire to pursue the needs of others and effectively minister to the spiritual needs of fellow believers and non-believers through the biblical ministration of spiritual gifts. Every service that is held at Cottonwood is designed to uplift the Saviour and give Him His rightful place. We also desire to edify the believer through sound biblical preaching and teaching.

Our beliefs

What you read here is a summarization of what we believe as a church. We believe the Bible and teach it to be without error. Every belief and teaching flows from the Bible, God’s Word.

The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. By “Bible“ we mean that collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation. We believe God not only inspired every word, but has preserved them through the ages. We believe the King James Version is the preserved Word of God for the English-speaking people.

II Timothy 3:16-16; II Peter 1:19-21; Acts 1:16; Acts 28:25; Psalm 119:105; Psalm 119:130; Luke 24:25-27; John 17:17; Luke 24:44-45; Psalm 119:89; Proverbs 30:5-6; Romans 3:4 I Peter 1:23; Revelation 22:19; John 12:48; Isaiah 8:20; Ephesians 6:17; Romans 15:4; Luke 16:31; Psalm 19:7-11; John 5:45-47; John 5:39.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ to be the one and only Saviour of mankind. He is the only plan for bringing people who are far from God back into a right relationship with God. He was born of a virgin, and lived a perfect life, so that He could be a sacrifice to God on our behalf. He was completely human but, at the same time, completely God. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was virgin born.

Isaiah 7:14; 53; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6; Luke 22:70; 24:46-47; John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 11:25-27; 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; 8:1-3; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Gal 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15; 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has always been involved in the affairs of mankind. He works today to guide believers into all truth and exalt Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment. He assures us of our relationship with Christ.

Genesis 1:2; Psalm 51:11; 139:7 ff.; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 2:28-32; Mark 1:10; Luke 1:35; 4:1; 11:13; 12:12; John 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; 13:2; Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Peter 1:21; Revelation 22:17.
God
We believe in one God, who is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe He has one nature, one essence, and one substance, yet manifests Himself to man in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.

Deuteronomy 6:4; I Timothy 1:17; James 1:17; I John 4:4.
Salvation
We believe that all people were created In the image of God to have fellowship with him but through Adam’s sin, inherited the sin nature. We believe that because of this nature, man is a sinner by choice, and alienated from a relationship with God. He is totally incapable of reforming himself or ceasing from his sin by his own power or efforts. He is in need of salvation. The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God, and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. We believe that upon accepting the free gift of salvation a man is eternally saved, and cannot lose his salvation. We believe that all those who reject Jesus Christ as their Saviour are already condemned to an eternity in the Lake of Fire.

Genesis 2:16-17; Genesis 3:6-7; Romans 5:18-21; Isaiah 53:6; Genesis 5:1-5; Acts 4:19; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:10-23; Romans 5:6-12; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-6; Revelation 20:11-14.
The Church
The Church is a local community of baptized believers unified through faith in Christ. We believe the church began with the calling out of the twelve apostles by Jesus Christ and was empowered on the day of Pentecost. We believe the local church is God’s only institution to carry out His work today. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to bring the Gospel to the world.

Matthew 16:18-19; 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-47; 5:11-14; 13:1-3; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:10-12; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3.
The Christian Life
We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

Romans 12:2; James 1:22-27; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 John 2:15-17; Colossians 3:5-10; Ephesians 5:1-7.
The last days
We believe in the pre-tribulational Rapture of the church saints, followed by the seven-year Tribulation. We believe in the pre-millennial return of Christ to the earth and His literal rule of one thousand years. Following this one thousand years is the Great White Throne judgment and then the new Heaven and new earth.

I Corinthians 15:51-58; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Thessalonians 5:1-9; Revelation 19-22.
